TECHNOLOGY OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION OF RAPID-QUENCHED MAGNETIC POWDERS (BZMP) AND HARD MAGNETIC MATERIALS OF NEW GENERATION

Summary. Technology of manufacturing rapid-quenched magnetic powders (RQMP) is offered based on methods of centrifugal atomization or spraying of melt followed by rapid quenching on cooled shield.

This technology is providing the preparation of magnetic powders of wide variety of materials.

Features:
BZMP (NdFeB powders) manufactured by new method are characterized by stable granulometry parameters, high-level of uniformity of alloying  distribution in powder particles and  fine-grained structure. This facilitates the forming the high coercivity condition of the material.

Common parameters:
Particle size: less than 400 mkm; Hci: 240 - 1300 kA/m; Br : 0.75 - 1.1 T; (BH)max: not less than 80 kJ/m3

Competitive advantages.
Method of centrifugal atomization (CA) is featured by cheaper, simpler and more productive equipment than in spinning Magnequench (SM) technology. Productivity of CA 5-7 times as much as in SM.
· CA technology is free from processing problems inherent to SM technology
· Capability to control the thickness of flakes produced by CA method regardless of quenching rate, in comparison with SM methods, allows for obtaining the optimal quenched flakes in wide range of thickness (5 - 50 mkm) where nano-crystalline and amorphous powders can coexist
· Effective using the controlled crystallization annealing allows for obtaining powders of a wide combination of magnetic and other physical properties

The centrifugal atomization for production of RQMP is the only reliable alternative to Magnequench technology of melt spinning.
