APPLIED MAGNET TECHNOLOGY

Departament Of Composite Materials
V.Bakul Institute For Superhard Materials Of
Ukrainian National Academy Of Sciences, Kiev, Ukraine

Institute of super-hard materials was founded in 1961 focusing on R&D of synthesis of super-hard materials, including synthetic diamonds, and manufacturing tools based on these materials.
Later the scope of the Institute R&D included composite materials based on various matrix materials and super-hard strengthening components.

Field of activity:

  • Computer simulation of mechanical properties of composite materials
  • Development and improvement of methods of mechanical and physical testing of brittle materials
  • Development of sintering technology of composites and ceramics
  • Computer simulation of penetration of hard bodies in protectors of armour and bullet proof type
  • Development of various types of tools, based on diamond and other hard alloys containing composites
  • Development of metal-ceramics systems
  • Development of special technologies including sintering at blast waves impact, and electric high-speed pulse aided sintering

Testing equipment:

  • Equipment for measurements of elastic parameters of materials
  • High temperature dilatometer
  • Equipment for measurements of thermal conductivity
  • Universal testing stands for compression and bending of brittle materials
  • Equipment for fatigue tests allowing for determining parameters of fracture toughness (crack propagation)
  • Original system and methods for definition of tensile strength by diametral compression of disk type samples
