Publicly owned company "Cheboksary Electric Apparatus Plant" ("ChEAZ") originated from formerly the State plant that was created in December 1941, during the Second World War, based on several enterprises evacuated from zones of military operations.

Now "ChEAZ" is the largest enterprise of the Russian electrical engineering industry, employing 6400.
